The end of the year is a great time to think about new beginnings. But it’s also a great time for reflection, which can inform the new beginning.

Today I enjoy the cards we get, which, for the most part, are a collage of photographs from the sender. In one glance, I can see a year’s worth of announcements. I haven’t done those, either.

But, even if you don’t announce anything to anyone, reviewing the year is a critical part of goal setting and moving forward. Reflection of successes and recognizing that even if you didn’t get everything you wanted this past year, you got a lot done, helps fuel motivation and inspiration.

I’m heading off to write down the results of reflecting on my past year. I’ll be asking myself the following questions to help me look forward with more thought.

1. What are the events/accomplishments from the past year that I’m most proud/excited about?

2. What were my biggest flops and what lessons have I learned from them and why is that lesson important for the upcoming year?

3. What can I change about how I look at life, business, relationships that will make the upcoming year better than the last?

Instead of just looking back on the year without guidance, my goal is to take the positives and negatives from the past year and make them work for me as the New Year begins. I’d love to hear from you about how this worked for you.

So with that, I wish you a thoughtful close to 2018 and a fulfilling 2019. Happy New Year!
